Whiteout by Ken Follett Pan Macmillan
Whiteout – Book Review
Ken Follett is the genius behind ‘The Pillars of the Earth’, the historical saga that captured millions of people in the book form, and even more millions when it hit our screens; so when Whiteout landed on my desk I wasn’t prepared for it at all.
Welcome to a cracking thriller based around two break-ins at the highly guarded and seemingly secure biological experimental facility, pharmaceutical research company Oxenford Medical.
It seems impossible that this entire novel spans a mere three days, but you will be on the edge of seat with the initial bio-hazard scare, and almost off your chair by the time the second dastardly plot starts to take shape.
Bio-medical research facilities do exist, their security is second to none, but so is human compassion… And greed.
I think, even after being wowed by Follett’s historical works, that I prefer his thrillers. There is quite a bit of technical information, but not enough to render it mundane, and the way he writes will suck you in to the story completely; even the toe-curling suspense will have you at the bookshelf looking for more!
